BHGSG News: 2011 International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards In Toronto - Shah Rukh Khan Greets Anushka Sharma....NSI News Source Info # 2126

BHGSG News - June 25, 2011: Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan greets Anushka Sharma during the IIFA Rocks show in Toronto, June 24, 2011. The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards will be held in Toronto on June 25.

The ceremony for this year's International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards is taking place in Toronto on June 25, but there are plenty of scheduled celebrations in the Greater Toronto Area leading up to the big gala.

One of the key objectives for both the Government of Ontario and IIFA is that the IIFA experience is an opportunity for people both from the region (participating four cities) as well as visitors from other areas of Ontario, Canada and the world to share in the celebration of IIFA. The 'IIFA Buzz' is a program of events that has been developed to incorporate municipal programming and events that celebrate Indo-Ontarian communities and identify with the IIFA brand.

BHGSG News: Kardashian Family Made A Collective $65M In 2010....NSI News Source Info # 2125

BHGSG News - June 25, 2011: It all started with a sleazy sex tape and ended with $65 Million for a family. That's as bluntly as I could put it.
The huge exposure Kim Kardashian got when this previously unknown personality rocketed to Internet and reality show fame through a sex tape is nothing short of phenomenal. According to Hollywood Reporter, this crazy amount of exposure benefited her family as well.

Thanks to their collection of reality shows, celebrity endorsements, product endorsements, and appearance fees, the family has managed to rack up a huge $65 Million income for 2010. To put that huge number in perspective, the Kardashian family has made more than Angelina Jolie, Sandra Bullock, and Tom Cruise combined in 2010.

Even Kim Kardashian's mother, Kris Jenner, doesn't dispute that all this fame and success and moolah came directly as a result of Kim's sex tape expose. She says it was all about making the best out of a bad situation--of making lemonade out of lemons. More like a heap of honey to me.

"Calm is all Nature as a Resting Wheel." By William Wordsworth, Destination - Dominican Republic - Courtesy Raj Seth ....NSI News Source Info # 1882

The Dominican Republic: a nation on the island of Hispaniola, part of the Greater Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean region. The western third of the island is occupied by the nation of Haiti, making Hispaniola one of two Caribbean islands that are shared by two countries. Both by area and population, the Dominican Republic is the second largest Caribbean nation (after Cuba), with 48,442 square kilometres (18,704 sq mi) and an estimated 10 million people.

Inhabited by Taínos since the 7th century, the territory of the Dominican Republic was reached by Christopher Columbus in 1492 and became the site of the first permanent European settlement in the Americas, namely Santo Domingo, the country's capital and Spain's first capital in the New World. In Santo Domingo stand, among other firsts in the Americas, the first university, cathedral, and castle, the latter two in the Ciudad Colonial area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

After three centuries of Spanish rule, with French and Haitian interludes, the country became independent in 1821 but was quickly taken over by Haiti. Victorious in the Dominican War of Independence in 1844, Dominicans experienced mostly internal strife, and also a brief return to Spanish rule, over the next 72 years. The United States occupation of 1916–1924, and a subsequent, calm and prosperous six-year period under Horacio Vásquez Lajara, were followed by the dictatorship of Rafael Leonidas Trujillo Molina until 1961. The civil war of 1965, the country's last, was ended by a U.S.-led intervention, and was followed by the authoritarian rule of Joaquín Balaguer, 1966–1978. Since then, the Dominican Republic has moved toward representative democracy, and has been led by Leonel Fernández for most of the time after 1996.

Asian Defense News: Singapore News ~ Fury Over Driver Who Parks At Handicapped Lot....NSI News Source Info # 1770

April 4, 2011: A white BMW that is regularly parked at a lot reserved for the disabled has raised the ire of civic-minded Singaporeans. The car, which is missing a handicapped label, usually hogs the only available parking space reserved for the handicapped at a carpark in Bukit Purmei HDB estate.

The driver's inconsiderate behaviour has enraged a resident so much so he alerted the district's Member of Parliament Sam Tan, reported The Sunday Times (ST).

The latter then informed the Housing & Development Board (HDB).

The driver of the BMW with licence plate number ER 61U has been identified as 34-year-old Yew Chee Heng, owner of Rich Harvest Florist & Trading. His shop is located near the carpark in question.

The HDB told the paper it is aware of the case "where an inconsiderate driver repeatedly parked his car in the reserved space for disabled drivers".

The authority has been taking enforcement action, a spokesman said.

"For recalcitrant motorists such as this case, we will intensify our enforcement action against the offender and mete out stiffer penalties," a spokeswoman said.

A check on the HDB website revealed, between 16 March to 1 April, Yew chalked up seven parking summonses, all unpaid, each with a fine of $50.

Yew declined to be interviewed when contacted by the same paper.

President of the Handicaps Welfare Association Nancy Chia said such illegal parking is "a big problem."

"If the non-disabled cannot support the disabled, then where else can we get support from?"
