(NSI News Source Info) LONDON, U.K. - May 22, 2011: US President Barack Obama says he would order another covert military raid like that which killed Osama bin Laden if it was necessary to stop terrorist attacks.

Pakistan is furious that that United States sent Navy Seals to raid Osama's Pakistan hideaway earlier this month without informing Pakistani authorities.

Mr Obama told the BBC in an interview broadcast on Sunday that 'we are very respectful of the sovereignty of Pakistan,' but 'our job is to secure the United States.'

He said he could not allow 'active plans to come to fruition without us taking some action,' and would send troops again if a senior Taleban leader was found in Pakistan.

Mr Obama begins a six-day trip to Europe on Monday, visiting Ireland, Britain, France and Poland.

**Over 70 militants attack Pakistani security post, 17 dead
(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada / PESHAWAR, Pakistan - May 18, 2011: More than 70 militants armed with rockets and mortars attacked a security post on the outskirts of Pakistan's northwestern city of Peshawar on Wednesday, the latest in an upsurge of violence since Osama bin Laden was killed in the country this month.

Pakistani police officers ride horses in front of relatives of one of two officers, who were killed in an attack by militants at a security checkpoint, carrying his body during his funeral procession in Peshawar, Pakistan, Wednesday, May 18, 2011. Dozens of militants bearing rocket-propelled grenades attacked a key security checkpoint near the Pakistani city of Peshawar early Wednesday, sparking a three-hour clash that killed two police officers and 15 insurgents, police said. Two members of the security forces and at least 15 insurgents were killed in a four-hour gunbattle that erupted following two successive attacks on the security post set up to defend Peshawar, the gateway to the troubled northwest region.

"They were well-armed. They had heavy weapons, rockets, mortars everything. The fighting lasted for about four and a half hours," Ejaz Khan, a city police officer, said.

The attack took place near Khyber, part of Pakistan's lawless tribal belt on the Afghan border, which is regarded as a global hub of militants, including al Qaeda and the Pakistani and Afghan Taliban movements.

Two members of the security forces were killed and five wounded, Khan said. At least 15 insurgents were killed.

Security forces repulsed the first attack by the militants which was carried out just before midnight, officials said.

"Then they carried out a big attack early in the morning. We also called in reinforcements to counter the attack and we did it," a Peshawar security official said.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - May 11, 2011: Kurt Volker, Former US Ambassador to NATO spoke to TIMES NOW on Wednesday (May 11) and said he does not believe that Pakistan was unaware of Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden
's house in Abbottabad, which was at a short distance from a military training academy. He also added that Pakistan must stop playing double games.

He said, "I personally don't believe that no one in Pakistani government was aware that Osama was living in a house in Abbottabad, near the military academy. May be not the President but others from the government must have been aware of it."

"Pakistan must stop this double games and decide whether it wants to help in in the fight of anti-terrorism," added Volker.

The former US Ambassador to NATO also added that Congress is thinking of cutting out military funds to Pakistan.

He said, "The Congress is meditating on the option of cutting out military funds to Pakistan if they don't take a stance in favour of the fight against terror. The intellegence co-operation also has to be mutual. "

DTN News - OSAMA BIN LADEN & PAKISTAN NEWS: Pakistan PM Rejects Accusations Over Bin Laden As Absurd....NSI News Source Info # 1923

(NSI News Source Info) ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - May 9, 2011: Pakistan Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani on Monday rejected allegations that the killing of Osama bin Laden by U.S. troops in the country showed Pakistani incompetence or complicity in hiding the al Qaeda leader.

Opposition politicians have stepped up their criticism of Pakistan's leaders over the killing of bin Laden in a raid by U.S. special forces in a northern Pakistani town on May 2.

Pakistan welcomed the death of bin Laden, who plotted the Sept. 11, 2001, airliner attacks on the United States, as a step in the fight against militancy but also complained that the raid was a violation of its sovereignty.

The fact that bin Laden was found hiding in the garrison town of Abbottabad, 50 km (30 miles) from the capital, has led to accusations that Pakistani security agencies were either incompetent or sheltering the world's most wanted man.

"Allegations of complicity or incompetence are absurd," Gilani said in a televised address to parliament, adding that it was disingenuous for anyone to accuse Pakistan, including its spy agency, of "being in cahoots" with the al Qaeda network.

The U.S. raid has added to strains in ties between Islamabad and Washington, which are crucial to combating Islamist militants and to bringing stability to Afghanistan.

DTN News - STEALTH HELICOPTER NEWS: SEALs Used Secret Stealth Helicopter In Osama bin Laden Abbottabad Raid....NSI News Source Info # 1915

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - May 7, 2011:

Making a whisper-quiet helicopter is still beyond the means of modern technology, but military defense analysts say the Sikorsky choppers that Navy SEALs used in the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound in Pakistan were clearly an advance toward that long-sought goal.

One of the helicopters was damaged during a hard landing and the commandos destroyed it before leaving with the infamous terrorist's body. Military aviation experts have been poring over photographs of the debris, particularly the tail section.

Precisely how the Black Hawk helicopters were modified is not known, but the photographs of the wreckage, analysts say, offer new clues to the military's cutting-edge methods.

DTN News - OSAMA BIN LADEN NEWS: Bin Laden Buried At Sea, Official Says....NSI News Source Info # 1900

(NSI News Source Info)

WASHINGTON, - May 2, 2011: Osama bin Laden received a Muslim ceremony as he was buried at sea, a senior defense official said here today.

The religious rites were performed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson in the North Arabian Sea, the official said, speaking on background, and occurred within 24 hours of the terrorist leader's death.

"Preparations for at-sea [burial] began at 1:10 a.m. Eastern Standard Time and were completed at 2 a.m.," the official said.

The burial followed traditional Muslim burial customs, the official said, and bin Laden's body was washed and placed in a white sheet.

"The body was placed in a weighted bag. A military officer read prepared religious remarks, which were translated into Arabic by a native speaker," the official added.

Afterward, Bin Laden's body was placed onto a flat board, which was then elevated upward on one side and the body slid off into the sea.

DTN News - OSAMA BIN LADEN NEWS: Red Alert ~ Osama Bin Laden Killed....NSI News Source Info # 1898

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - May 2, 2011:

The United States has killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and recovered his body, according to numerous media reports May 1 citing U.S. officials. U.S. President Barack Obama is scheduled to make an announcement on the subject. It is not clear precisely how bin Laden was killed or how his body was recovered, but the assertion that he is dead is significant.

Bin Laden had become the symbol of al Qaeda, even though the degree to which he commanded the organization was questionable. The symbolic value of his death is obvious. The United States can claim a great victory. Al Qaeda can proclaim his martyrdom.

It is difficult to understand what this means at this moment, but it permits the Obama administration to claim victory, at least partially, over al Qaeda. It also opens the door for the beginning of a withdrawal from Afghanistan, regardless of the practical impact of bin Laden’s death. The mission in Afghanistan was to defeat al Qaeda, and with his death, a plausible claim can be made that the mission is complete. Again speculatively, it will be interesting to see how this affects U.S. strategy there.
