Ashley Cole was struggling to crack a smile on his LA lads' holiday - until yesterday, when he received a mystery text on his mobile.
The Chelsea and England footballer suddenly had a big grin on his face after moping around the pool at his plush Beverly Hills hotel with his mates this week.
'He looked lovesick and thoroughly fed-up,' a source tells the Daily Star.
'Thank goodness he got something that cheered him up. He had been acting like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders.'

The soccer player has been trying to win back ex-wife Cheryl Cole and and it could have worked.
The pair are said to be organising a secret holiday to celebrate Cheryl's 28th birthday at the end of the month.�
'He's going to make it a trip she'll never forget,' reveals Now's source.
'He's planning every detail, down to the 1,000-thread count Egyptian cotton sheets in what he intends to be the most luxurious suite.'
