Hef dumped on same day as ex launches music career

Hugh Hefner and Crystal Harris, who became engaged on Christmas Eve, have called it quits.

"For richer or poorer" might have been the deal-breaker for Crystal Harris, who abruptly left Hugh Hefner days before their planned wedding.

According to TMZ.com sources, Harris was dismayed that the ultra-rich Hefner was only giving her a "couple hundred dollar" allowance each week.

The 25-year-old reportedly wants to rake in her own dough via a music career, which ? coincidentally ? happened to launch the same day as the couple's announced split.

Harris' first single, "Club Queen," debuted online at midnight Monday.

Both Hefner, 85, and Harris confirmed early Tuesday afternoon that they had ended their relationship.

Harris believed she "couldn't be married to Hef and have a successful music career," sources told TMZ.

But it seems the Playboy founder was supportive of her showbiz dreams, even plugging her new track on Twitter in the midst of tweets discussing the split.

"Crystal's 'Club Queen' became available on iTunes today," he wrote. "I hope it's a hit."

But the timing wasn't lost on Hefner, either. He retweeted a follower's statement that it didn't seem coincidental that the split coincided with her music debut.

"The breakup is a heartbreaker," Hefner admitted in another tweet, "but better now than after the marriage."

The media mogul, already twice married, hasn't said what caused Harris to have "a change of heart," as he put it, but he denied an earlier TMZ report that claimed the two "had a nasty argument."

"There were no arguments," Hefner tweeted.

Harris also denied through her manager that she has been seeing Dr. Phil McGraw's son, Jordan.

"That is absolutely not true," manager Michael Blakey told the Daily News on Tuesday. "It's a complete fabrication."

Blakey called the split "amicable," and said Harris and Hefner "will remain good friends."

The former couple was set to tie the knot Saturday at the Playboy Mansion, after becoming engaged in December.
